Cinema: a Lampedusa festival documentari su migrazioni

NAPLES – From tomorrow to August 5, Lampedusa hosts the first edition of the International Documentary Festival, with the finalist works that narrate the contemporary migratory phenomenon with a documentary look. T

he exhibition is organized by Amref Health Africa, Municipality of Lampedusa and Linosa, FilmAffair, as part of the project “Snapshots From The Borders” and takes place on the Sicilian island which has become a symbolic place of the migrants’ odyssey to arrive in Europe from the Africa. For three evenings in Piazza Castello, the three finalist competition documentaries selected by the project partners and by a technical jury composed by RAI3 director Fabio Mancini, the French director Charlotte Uzu and the Ethiopian director Dagmawi Yimer will be awarded. Tomorrow, Saturday 3 August, we start with “Stranger in Paradise” Dutch work signed by Guido Hendrikx; Sunday 4 August, again from Holland, “But Now Is Perfect” by Carin Goeijers; Monday, August 5, it’s the Italian documentary “Iuventa” by Michele Cinque.

The documentaries (there were ten in all those in the competition) are real snapshots which, the organizers explain, aim to tell the human, material and political implications of borders and migration policies on the territories and on the people involved, on who migrates and on who lives in the interested territories.

Snapshots From The Borders, progetto triennale cofinanziato dall’Unione Europea che coinvolge 35 partner di 16 Paesi europei fra autorità locali di confine e organizzazioni della società civile, ha l’obiettivo di promuovere una comprensione critica delle interdipendenze globali che determinano i flussi migratori verso i confini europei, da parte dei decisori politici europei, nazionali e locali e dell’opinione pubblica.
