SHIRIKA lisilo la kiserikali AMREF wakishirikiana na jamii ya kabila la kimasai (Laigwanani) kutoka Wilaya ya Handeni na Kilindi wamekubaliana kutunga sheria mpya za kimila kuhusiana na ukeketaji kwa watoto wa kike huku sheria kubwa ikiwa ni kutengwa na jamii.
Mkakati huo umepangwa wakati wa kikao cha kujadili jinsi ya kupinga na kuzuia ukeketaji kilichoandaliwa na Shirika la AMREF, ambapo wamesema wanatunga sheria hizo sambamba na kutoa elimu, hivyo atakaebainika kufanya vitendo hivyo adhabu itachukuliwa dhidi yake.
William Tangono, ambaye ni mmoja wa Laigwanani kutoka kabila hilo amesema wanaweka sheria za kimila ili kupinga na kuzuia ukeketaji na pia kuungana na serikali kutokomeza suala hili.
“Sisi kama watetezi wa wananchi Malaigwanani lazima tuweke sheria za kimila kwa sababu hata serikali inapinga marufuku, hivyo na sisi tukiingiza sheria za kimila itasaidia kupunguza au kutokomeza kabisa” Amesema Tangono
Naye Simon Ngosha, mmoja wa waliohudhuria katika kikao hicho amesema “Tukiweka sheria za kimila itasaidia mtu kuwa na hofu kutokana na laana za jamii yake kwa sababu watu wengi huogopa sana laana kuliko kitu chochote”Amesema.
Rehema Kamando, mdau wa kupinga ukeketaji amesema elimu itolewe hasa kwa wazee wa kabila hilo kwa kuwa ndio wahusika wakuu kwani wao ndio wanakeketa watoto wakiwa wadogo kwa siri pindi wazaliwapo hali ambayo hupelekea baba wa mototo kutojua.
Meneja Mradi AMREF, Dkt. Jane Sempeho, amesema wameamua kuanzisha mradi huo mdogo kwa ajili ya kuhamasisha jamii zinazohusika na masuala ya ukeketaji ili waweze kuacha kwa sababu ni kinyume cha haki za binadamu.
