The Ministry of Health in partnership with the Hygiene Behaviour Change Coalition (HBCC), led by Amref Health Africa have launched the Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC) Behaviour Change for COVID-19 training in Tudor Estate (Uwanjani) in Mombasa County. The launch was officiated by the Ministry of Health’s Head of Department of Public Health, Colonel Susan Mutua. Also in attendance were the Mombasa County, Department of Health officials; Mr. Hazel Koitaba, Dr Salma Swaleh and Ms Pauline Oginga.
The launch is in line with the National Government’s COVID-19 response plan to continuously improve the capacities, skills and knowledge of frontline health workers in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. During the launch, protective equipment for health workers, face masks and sanitisers were distributed to the County Department of Health. The training will see more than 3,800 health workers equipped with knowledge, skills and resources vital in combating the spread of COVID-19 at the community level.
The Hygiene Behaviour Change Coalition (HBCC) will implement activities in ten high-risk counties over 12 months through to May 2021. The Coalition comprised of stakeholders from both the private and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), has been supported by Unilever and the United Kingdom (UK) Department for International Development. The activities of the program will reach approximately 5 million people with vital, timely and reliable behaviour change programs to combat and stop the spread of COVID-19.
Part of the strategies by the Coalition will include, behaviour change programs, digital solutions, radio shows and public awareness campaigns
