4 July 2024, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: Amref Health Africa in Tanzania and East Africa Television Limited (EATV) have joined forces in a strategic collaboration to advance the production and documentation of health content, with a particular focus on youth and women. The signing ceremony, held at EATV’s office in Dar es Salaam, marks a significant milestone in harnessing the media’s role to reach and empower communities. The partnership will run for a period of two years.
Under this partnership, EATV and Amref, will produce and disseminate audio-visual content centred around youth and women empowerment, specifically targeting the improvement of access to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services. These programs will be aired on EATV’s platforms, including TV, radio, and digital channels.
Speaking during the MOU signing ceremony, Regina Mengi, Managing Director at EATV, expressed her enthusiasm, stating: “We are excited to partner with Amref Tanzania to amplify important messages to the public, especially content that focuses on women and youth empowerment in the realm of WASH services. Through this collaboration, we aim to use our media reach to drive positive change and empower communities across Tanzania.”
Dr Florence Temu, Country Director of Amref Health Africa in Tanzania, said: “We are pleased to collaborate with EATV to bring attention to critical issues affecting youth and women, particularly in ensuring access to clean water and sanitation. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to leveraging media as a tool for advocacy and social change.”
The collaboration between EATV and Amref Tanzania signifies a significant step towards creating impactful content that informs, educates, and communicates while addressing the health needs of communities.
According to a paper published by USAID on gender and Youth, by 2025, Tanzania’s population is projected to grow by 10 million, with youth making up 75% of the total. Currently, women constitute half of Tanzania’s population. Despite these significant demographics, women and youth remain among the most marginalized and underutilized groups in the country.
This partnership seeks to promote gender equality and empower women and youth as change-agents in their communities, recognizing their vital role in Tanzania’s progress and growth. By leveraging the power of media, this partnership will drive positive change and contribute to the overall well-being of Tanzanian communities.
It will also enhance and strengthen the link between the community, media, and Amref Health Africa in Tanzania projects, contributing to sustainable development goals and benefiting the Tanzanian population.
