NAIROBI, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) — Africa is drawing lessons from China’s successful COVID-19 pandemic control measures, a pan-African health campaigner said on Thursday.

Githinji Gitahi, Group CEO of Amref Health Africa told Xinhua in Nairobi that China’s move to act early and implement travel restrictions and other control measures helped to control the spread of the virus in the Asian nation.

“These models have been adopted in many countries in Africa to control the spread of COVID-19 pandemic and minimize deaths,” Gitahi said during a forum on knowledge, attitudes, practices and effects of COVID-19 among youth in Kenya and the impact of COVID-19 on HIV/AIDS programming in Kenya.

He said that the Chinese government was prudent to deploy its resources to come up with innovation that ha helped to control the spread of COVID-19.

Gitahi said that China was able to demonstrate the need to create isolation centers for COVID-19 patients to enable hospitals to continue to provide health services for other diseases.

He added that Chinese studies on the symptoms of COVID-19 have been used extensively in Africa’s clinical surveillance measures to control the spread of the virus.
