…Dr Githinji Gitahi speaks at the G7 Kobe Health Ministers’ Meeting on September 10, 2016
8 September 2016
Dr Githinji Gitahi, the Group CEO of Amref Health Africa, spoke at a meeting during the G7 Kobe Health Ministers’ Meeting Side Event on Saturday, September 10, 2016. He presented his insights as the Group CEO of the largest health NGO in Africa on the role of private sector in healthcare.
The event comes at a time when the role of private sector in healthcare has come into sharp focus due to its role in complementing public sector efforts. This is particularly pertinent in Africa, where government efforts are limited by budget constraints and skills deficit.
“Amref Health Africa has established enduring linkages with the communities on the ground. We are therefore a crucial knowledge partner for private sector players keen on exploiting the opportunities in African healthcare,” remarked Dr Gitahi.
The G7 side event, organized by the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE), comes hot on the heels of a similar event organized by Amref and JCIE in Nairobi in August, 2016.
“Amref has been at the frontline of advocacy for greater private sector involvement in health,” said Dr Gitahi.
The meeting is not only meant to explore private sector solutions to health, but also to help drive implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals that touch on health.
