Amref Health Africa has donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to about 100 households in traditional authorities (T/As) Liwonde, Kawinga, Nyambi, and Chikweo in Machinga District.
Speaking on Monday during the handover at Tigwirizane Community-Based Organisation Centre in T/A Kawinga, Amref project officer Charles Chirwa encouraged the people to utilise the facilities to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“Personal hygiene remains important in preventing the spread of the virus,” he said.
In her remarks, a community member Jangala Adiyo asked for more PPE from other well-wishers.
“Most people in the villages cannot afford to buy soap,” she said.
Another community member, Alice Katsonga from Chokola Village in T/A Kawinga, said people were failing to observe Covid-19 preventive measures due to lack of PPE.
The items included buckets, soap, and water guards.
Amref donated the PPE under Global Affairs Canada Covid-19 Response which seeks to support vulnerable households to fight the pandemic.
