Today we join the world in marking the International Day of Zero Tolerance to FGM. We view #FGM/C as a gross violation and subjugation of women and girls that enforces violence, early marriage as well as underage pregnancies and denies young girls the right to achieve their full potential.
#FGM is a stark manifestation of gender inequality & discrimination related to the historical subjugation and suppression on women.
FGM/C is a traumatic experience that leaves a lasting psychological mark & may adversely affect the mental health of the victims.
FGM/C elimination was included under SDG Goal 5 to eliminate harmful practices, including child, early & forced marriage & Female Genital Mutilation. #EndFGM
#FGM is a global concern. The practice is most common in the Western, Eastern & North-Eastern regions of Africa, in some countries the Middle East & Asia, as well as among migrants from these areas.
