World Malaria Day 2025 Theme: “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite.”
Malaria is a significant and urgent public health challenge in Africa. According to the latest data, in 2023, the continent was home to 94% of the world’s malaria cases and 95% of malaria deaths, with children under five accounting for more than 75% of the lives lost. While significant progress has been made in expanding access to proven malaria control measures, the recent shifts in global health funding threaten to reverse these gains. Projections indicate that without urgent intervention, these disruptions could lead to an estimated 15 million more cases and 100,000 additional deaths across Africa in 2025.
The introduction of two Gavi-supported vaccines marks a breakthrough in cost-effective disease prevention and control. But in a shifting word, more must be done to help countries access and deploy this groundbreaking technology – alongside other comprehensive control measures – to continue progress toward a malaria-free future.
Now, Amref Health Africa and Axum invite you to a special Africa Dialogues under the theme Scaling Malaria Vaccines in a Shifting World. This high-impact webinar will bring together experts to review evidence, identify challenges, and discuss strategies to harness the full power of vaccines and achieve the goals of the Global Technical Strategy for Malaria.
- Latest Evidence: Learn how countries are assessing the impact of disruptions in global malaria funding on national malaria control programmes and what strategies promise resilient impacts.
- African-Led Innovation: Hear how local leaders partnered with global researchers to develop safe and effective tools to revolutionize the fight against malaria.
- The Power of Collaboration: Discuss the roles of local, regional, and global partners in vaccine financing for a resilient malaria-free future.
