Strong partnerships, coordinated action, and sustained investment are critical to building resilient health systems and expanding access to quality healthcare services. Driven by this conviction, Amref Health Africa Tanzania actively engaged key government stakeholders to advance the nation’s health development agenda.

On 21 May 2026, Amref Tanzania presented its achievements and contributions in the health sector to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Welfare and Community Development in Dodoma. This engagement reaffirmed Amref’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with the government and development partners, all working together to strengthen health systems and improve healthcare services across the country.

Amref Tanzania showcased impactful results and key areas of intervention, demonstrating its contributions to strengthening health systems, advancing community and maternal health, improving nutrition, disease prevention, and promoting water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), as well as public health security.

Hon. Hawa Mchafu, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Welfare and Community Development, commended development partners for their essential role in strengthening Tanzania’s health sector and advancing healthcare services.

“The Government recognises and appreciates development partners such as Amref Tanzania for supporting efforts to improve healthcare services and enhance the wellbeing of Tanzanians,” she stated.

In 2025 alone, Amref Tanzania reached more than 2.7 million people through direct health interventions and engaged over 8 million through media, digital platforms, and health communication initiatives. These results highlight Amref’s ongoing investment in strengthening service delivery and raising public health awareness across Tanzania.

Dr Florence Temu, Country Director of Amref Tanzania, reaffirmed the organisation’s steadfast partnership with the Government. She emphasised that collaboration is central to expanding equitable access to essential healthcare services for communities nationwide.

“Amref Tanzania works closely with the Government to ensure quality health services reach all communities. Strong health systems and active community participation are critical to advancing universal health coverage,” she noted.

Amref Tanzania also supports improvements in health policies and guidelines, strengthens disease surveillance, enhances preparedness and response to outbreaks, and builds the capacity of healthcare workers at all levels of the health system.

The organisation implements health interventions across diverse regions, including Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Mwanza, Mara, Simiyu, Shinyanga, Kigoma, Kagera, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Tanga, Morogoro, Lindi, Njombe, and Zanzibar.

Dr Florence Temu was accompanied by Dr Aisa Muya, Director of Programmes, alongside members of Amref Tanzania’s leadership team during the presentation.

About Amref Health Africa in Tanzania

With a focus on reaching and working with the most vulnerable African communities to achieve lasting health change, Amref Health Africa has been active in Tanzania since 1957, and in 1987, the country office was established in Dar es Salaam. Since then, Amref Health Africa in Tanzania has been among the major supporters of the Government of Tanzania’s health care initiatives, particularly the Ministry of Health, the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government, and the Local Government Authority. Amref has supported the development of several national health policies, strategies, and guidelines for equitable health service delivery.

Amref Health Africa-Tanzania’s projects respond to national health priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to address the needs of underserved communities, mostly women and children. We work to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of health services by strengthening health systems, improving access to services, advocating for stronger community health systems, and influencing health policies. Amref Health Africa-Tanzania remains a strong supporter of the Universal Health Coverage Agenda.
